Sept 2017 – March 2018 Update

We started the 2017 / 2018 academic year in a good position with funding for our young offenders program and a renewed contract from Danesgate.  The autumn term went smoothly and we welcomed back some old faces and welcomed in some new.

Since January we have started running an extra day for primary school age children, which has been very encouraging for staff and students. One of our students suffers from extreme anxiety and the teaching assistant who escorts him was absolutely delighted that he is speaking to staff and the other students.

Because of this, and our youth offending day we are now running five days a week, at 93% capacity. We have welcomed a new staff member and a new volunteer to our team to help with this; Ellen Day is working on our primary school day and our youth offending day, and has made a great impact – both with the students and staff, and Khatereh is volunteering with us 3 days a week, helping with the horticulture and doing art projects with the young people.

Attendance on our youth offending day is variable; attendance by the young offenders is viewed as a success by the youth offender team and we are having further emotional success with one of the offenders. He is beginning to respond to us, and we are making good progress.

We have also been very fortunate to receive two further grants to help us with our running costs. Running this program means that we are always in need of further financial support as the schools just do not have the budget to cover all of our running costs. We are very grateful to both the Foyle Foundation and The Fernhurst Trust who have provided us with financial help.

If financial support is something that you would like to consider, it would make a huge difference. Even £10 a month would help with allowing us to cover our basic running costs.  Our account with CAF donate allows this, and if you are a UK taxpayer you will be able to gift aid your donation.

We are going to be present at two school fairs over easter, mainly selling potted flowers, but we also have a few potted vegetables for sale. If you’d like to buy any of our potted flowers then just get in touch with us.
