We provide a full day from 10am to 2pm with our experienced staff and volunteers leading activities which are tailored to the needs of the pupils. Following a visit and agreeing the most suitable group and day to join, typically a pupil will attend once or twice a week for a half term, or longer as required. They may come as an individual or part of a small group from your school. Transport is usually by taxi, or a parent or carer may bring them. A packed lunch and outdoor footwear are needed. We liaise closely with schools to report progress after each day, ensuring that we are meeting the particular needs of our students and making a difference to their lives.
Outdoor activities include such challenges as constructing bivouacs, fire-lighting, making apple juice and, in the summer months, canoeing on the Pocklington Canal. We teach practical skills with our bike workshop – each student can choose one of our donated bikes and learn how to maintain it.
We have also developed our kitchen area, teaching essential life skills. Through all of these we aim to set challenges, develop new skills, encourage cooperation and social skills, build self-esteem.
Our service runs from 10am to 2pm in term time.
There is a daily fee, currently £115 per student per day. Schools will need to arrange transport. We ask our students to being a packed lunch and suitable outdoor footwear.
